Spring Valley, Washington, DC

For this Spring Valley residence with its picturesque architectural character, a tandem sidewalk rendered in bluestone flagging creates a journey through a lush garden – replete with a riot of perennials, native grasses, roses, and ornamental trees – leads to a brick and stone-paved landing reminisce of Gertrude Jekyll’s pond terrace at Hestercombe in Somerset, UK. An asymmetrically placed urn with ribbed-walls serves as a water feature with appreciable views from the house and from the public way.
