Garden Design for a Residence in McLean, VA

For this baronial residence rendered in Indiana limestone and stucco, the project required an elegant and understated response. The principal entrance with its herringbone pavement pattern is approached via distinctively laid square pavers creating a subtle graphic design. A walled terrace adjacent to the dining room allows for alfresco entertaining and serves as a point-of-entry to the back garden via a flight of rustic stone steps flanked by itea, hydrangea, hollies, cryptomeria, oaks, and plane trees. A loggia and balcony offer views of an elliptical-shaped greensward framed by a low arced sitting wall and native woodlands.
