Historic Craik House Garden Rehabilitation, Alexandria, VA

Located in the Old Town historic district of Alexandria, Virginia, The Craik House was a preservation and rehabilitation project for both the house and landscape. Dr. James Craik was President George Washington’s physician, yet this historically significant 18th century townhouse and its garden were in poor condition. This cultural landscape rehabilitation project involved historic research, analysis and assessment, garden forensics, archaeological digs, and design development sympathetic to historical precedent and contemporary uses as well as compliance with the State Historic Preservation Officer’s guidelines.
