Urban Garden & Deck Design, Washington, DC
Inspired by “beach house modern” typically found in Fire Island or Malibu, this garden and deck design adds a modernist dimension to the former “service yard” of a DC town house. Making the most of a small space, the design integrates the interior living space with the exterior – French doors provide light, access and views onto the deck. Horizontal fencing with a “tongue-in-groove” motif creates a graphic look while the Ipe (Brazilian walnut) decking provides additional richness to the surface finishes. Antique brownstone wall coping and a decorative pebble-surface parking court with a pergola canopy complete the look.
