Dumbarton Oaks Commemorative Garden, Washington, DC

Working with Dumbarton Oaks’s Horticulturalist and staff, I was part of a design team that conceptualized and developed the Odine Garden. Dedicated to a retiring executive director, this small garden – with it’s intricate pavement patterns – was inspired by the hemetic and allegorical symbolism found throughout this storied landscape designed by Beatrix Farrand for the Bliss Family in Washington, DC. The new garden takes full advantage of a once overlooked and undeveloped portion of the garden – sited between the Music Room terrace and Philip Johnson’s Pre-Columbian Library – fluidly connecting once disparate spaces.
